Sleep apnoea assessment requests
Before proceeding with an assessment for sleep apnoea, a worker needs to have previously had a sleep study, examination and treatment by an ENT specialist and an appropriate assessment and treatment by a Respiratory Physician.*
If you receive a request without evidence that the worker has previously had these services, you should not proceed with the assessment, as per paragraph 1.34 on page 8 of the Impairment Assessment Guidelines (PDF, 1194 KB). In this case, contact the requestor to advise that further assessment and treatment is required before the Whole Person Impairment (WPI) assessment can proceed.
