Work Injury Toolkit

The Work Injury Toolkit has been developed for Return to Work Coordinators, Managers and Leaders to support the early and effective management of workplace injuries.

For assistance with this toolkit, contact the Employer Education team on (08) 8238 5958 or coordinators@rtwsa.com.

How this toolkit helps

The toolkit helps employers to:

  • respond effectively to workplace injuries
  • communicate confidently with workers and medical providers
  • meet legal and procedural obligations
  • facilitate safe, timely, and sustainable return to work outcomes following workplace injury or illness.

How to use this toolkit

The toolkit is divided into three sections, each containing practical guidance, documents, and templates.

  • Some documents can be customised to include your business logo and tailored to suit your organisational needs.
  • Others are official ReturnToWorkSA documents and must not be altered.
  • You’ll also find QR codes and links to additional resources to support recovery and return to work practices.

Getting started

To make the most of the toolkit:

  • Review the full toolkit first to understand the available resources
  • Identify the documents most relevant to your workplace
  • Download and customise the editable templates to support your processes.

What’s included

For the documents and templates included in each section of the toolkit, see below:

Guidance tools for Return to Work Coordinators and Leaders (pages 4-10)

These resources support early intervention following a workplace injury or illness, providing practical guidance during the initial stage.

Documents to discuss and share with the worker (pages 11-20)

These documents help workers understand the process, their role, and how they’ll be supported, following a work injury or illness.
Providing these documents early allows the worker to review the information at their own pace, and seek clarification if needed.

Documents for completion (pages 21-26)

These documents support coordination and communication between all parties involved in the worker’s recovery and return to work.

For detailed guidance on how and when to use these documents, refer to the instructions on page 21 of the Toolkit.
