We offer a number of education and training opportunities for treating medical practitioners and their practice staff.

Online Courses

ReturnToWorkGP

ReturnToWorkGP is a free online course designed to provide you with the skills, tools and knowledge to help guide and progress your patients' recovery and return to work.

Developed by ReturnToWorkSA in partnership with GPEx, the course teaches:

  • the health benefits of work
  • how GPs can help their patients return to work
  • how to navigate the Return to Work scheme.

This is a free, two-hour online course, which is CPD accredited with the following organisations in the 2023-2025 triennium:

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP):

  • Educational Activities: 1 hour
  • Reviewing Performance: 1 hour
  • Total: 2 hours

Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM):

  • Accreditation for the new triennium is pending.

Opioids and Your Patient

Opioids and Your Patient is a free online course designed to provide you with the skills, tools and knowledge to help maximise patient benefits and minimise the potential harms associated with opioids. Supported by ReturnToWorkSA and developed by ReachForTheFacts in collaboration with industry experts, the course includes:

  • opioids and the dangers of use
  • when and how to prescribe
  • monitoring and review
  • de-prescribing prescription opioids.

Determining Physical Capacity - Adelaide

ReturnToWorkSA and GPEx invite GPs and primary health care teams to attend a workshop providing education and training on Determining Physical Capacity.

As a GP treating work injured patients, your role in determining physical capacity is crucial when planning a safe and efficient return to work.

This workshop aims to demystify and provide strategies for determining physical capacity, while equipping participants with further skills and knowledge to:

  • Identify and understand mental health conditions common to workplace psychological claims.
  • Define the role and responsibilities of a GP when treating patients with a work-related psychological injury.
  • Recognise and understand the impact work-related psychological injuries have on the Return to Work scheme.
  • Develop and apply strategies for having effective conversations in the context of recovery and return to work (including understanding the health benefits of work).
  • Select additional resources and avenues for patient support and referral.

Opioids and the Pharmacology of Chronic Pain Workshop - Adelaide
24 May, 5.30 pm-9.00pm

ReturnToWorkSA and GPEx invite GPs and primary health care teams to attend a workshop providing education and training on Opioids and the Pharmacology of Chronic Pain .

Presented by Dr Meredith Daff FAFRM (RACP) MD BAppSci this workshop aims to provide confidence and strategies when supporting patients in the Return to Work scheme while being aware of the risks and safety measures related to prescribing opioids and equipping participants with further skills and knowledge around:

  • Develop understanding of the dangers of long-term use and misuse of prescription opioids in adults.
  • Practice utilisation of decision-making tools to determine when and how to prescribe and deprescribe prescription opioids in adults.
  • Identify strategies for assessment in line with best practice regarding when patient are developing or have a drug dependence, including recognising red flags for dependence and diversion in adults.
  • Examine techniques and skills to have difficult conversations with adult patients around the dangers of opioid use, and about not prescribing or deprescribing.
  • Review the role of the GP in pain management and education.

Education at your clinic

Our work injury management modules include strategies and discussion points that are applicable to all patients, not just work injured. All modules include considerations for certifying capacity.

These sessions are delivered by our Medical Advisors- external site- external site- external site at your practice for your convenience.  Please note, these sessions are not accredited with RACGP QI & CPD.

  • managing persistent pain
  • managing acute lower back injury and pain
  • the role of allied health in patient education.
