The Mining and Quarrying Occupational Health and Safety Committee (MAQOHSC) is dedicated to safeguarding workers from dust related disease through its 5-year strategy and yearly action plan. Through a collaborative approach involving industry, unions, and government, MAQOHSC delivers practical safety initiatives, education, and research to reduce workplace harm. With a strong emphasis on preventing dust diseases such as silicosis, the Committee plays a vital role in promoting a healthier, safer future for workers.

The Committee’s key objectives

  • Work with stakeholders to implement a statewide health monitoring approach that effectively integrates with and contributes to the national silicosis strategy
  • Engage with small to medium employers in the mining and quarrying and other industries at risk from silicosis and dust related diseases to support improvements in prevention and management practices.
  • Support research in areas related to silicosis and dust related disease, by contributing to relevant state and national research initiatives.
