Understanding your Return to Work insurance premium

Video transcript

DESCRIPTION:

A red stylised map of South Australia has a white logo across it that reads ‘Return to Work SA’. The SA lettering is coloured red and has a logo above it that features a red line above a lime green line that curve into each other to form a stadium shape.

In an animation, a blonde woman stands in a warehouse loading dock near the back of an open truck. She holds a clipboard and wears an orange Hi-Vis vest. She smiles as she watches a group of three workers move some parcels near some tall shelves lined with boxes. A yellow sign above the loading dock reads ‘LOADING 08’ in black text.

The Return to Work SA stadium shaped logo appears above each of their heads.

MALE VOICEOVER:

ReturnToWorkSA provides South Australian employers with insurance to protect their business and their workers in the event of a work-related injury.

DESCRIPTION:

The background around the blonde woman changes to light grey. A yellow coin appears in the air next to her and has an orange dollar symbol on it. A second lime green cross symbol appears below the coin.

On the right, five small animated figures appear. A label below each reads, respectively, ‘Physio’; ‘Trainer’; ‘Worker’; ‘Case Manager’ and ‘GP’.

MALE VOICEOVER:

The scheme is funded by employers who pay an annual insurance premium, which includes cover for wages, reasonable medical treatment, care and support costs for your worker in the event of a work injury.

DESCRIPTION:

Three lime green circles are positioned like a pyramid. The top circle reads ‘Remuneration’ in red text alongside it and has three small icons inside of an egg in a nest, a blue car and a coin.

The circle on the bottom left is labelled ‘Industry risk rating’ and there is a pressure gauge inside that has a black needle that moves around to point at a red segment labelled ‘Very High’.

The circle on the bottom right is labelled ‘Income support costs’ and, inside, a red column rises on a gauge that reads ‘Income support costs’.

MALE VOICEOVER:

Your insurance premium is calculated based on the annual remuneration you pay your workers, including wages, Super and other allowances. A risk rating for the industry you operate in, the higher the risk, the higher the rate and any income support costs paid in the previous year for injuries that happened in the last three years.

DESCRIPTION:

The animation continues. An aqua shipping container has a graph on it that reads ‘Premium’ on the X axis and a lime green column gradually rises to the top. A grey label at the top of the column reads ‘Base premium’ in white text.

MALE VOICEOVER:

Employers will receive a discount to their premium upfront each year, based on their base premium.

DESCRIPTION:

The lime green column lowers and a second label reads ‘Discounted premium’.

MALE VOICEOVER:

If your business made no income support payments in the previous year, you will keep your full discount.

DESCRIPTION:

The lime green column rises again and a second red column begins to rise to the right. The new column is labelled ‘Income support costs’.

A blue forklift lifts a red shipping container on top of the aqua one.

MALE VOICEOVER:

If you incur income support costs in the previous year these will diminish your discount and potentially increase your premium above both a discounted premium and base amount, depending on the amount of income support costs.

DESCRIPTION:

The graph moves up to the red shipping container. The lime green ‘Premium’ column rises and two grey labels read ‘Premium cap’ at the top and ‘Base premium’ just below it. The red ‘Income support costs’ column gradually rises past the top of the green column and off into the sky above.

MALE VOICEOVER:

Return to WorkSA protects employers by capping the potential increase in insurance premiums against a worker's injury, which may result in a substantial amount of claims costs.

DESCRIPTION:

Back at the warehouse, the blonde woman walks as workers move parcels and use a forklift behind her. She checks her clipboard and suddenly a blue hardhat and orange Hi-Vis vest appear over her grey suit. The workers in the background also receive hardhats and vests, and warning signs and yellow and black tape appears across the warehouse floor.

MALE VOICEOVER:

You can directly influence the amount of insurance premium you pay each year, you can provide your employees with a safe workplace by preventing injuries from happening in the first place.

DESCRIPTION:

A male worker walks up to the blonde woman holding a spot on his shoulder where a red circle pulses. He has a ginger beard and wears a yellow hardhat and Hi-Vis clothing.

A speech bubble appears above the blonde woman that reads ‘Let’s get you to a doctor and see what treatment you need.’

MALE VOICEOVER:

If an injury does happen, we can assist you by providing the right support and treatment, so that your worker can stay at or return to work as soon as it is safe for them to do so.

DESCRIPTION:

Later, at the Loading Dock, the ginger bearded man stands with his arm in a sling. He holds a clipboard in his other hand and smiles as he watches the other workers unloading boxes from the back of a truck.

Later still, the ginger-bearded man drives a forklift with a large box on it.

MALE VOICEOVER:

Either on modified duties, back to their same job or even a new job altogether.

DESCRIPTION:

The ginger-bearded man sits at a desk inside an office. A yellow hardhat and vest hang from a peg on the wall. Outside the window, a crane rises above a cluster of shipping containers.

MALE VOICEOVER:

It's not only better for the health and well-being of the worker to return to work, but it also has a direct impact on the insurance premium you will pay.

DESCRIPTION:

Back inside the warehouse, the blonde woman stands alongside the earlier graph. The green ‘Premium’ column gradually lowers by a quarter.

MALE VOICEOVER:
