Impairment Assessment Guidelines Gazetted

The second edition of the Impairment Assessment Guidelines (the Guidelines) has been approved by the Treasurer and published in the South Australian Government Gazette.

Whole Person Impairment (WPI) assessments are a critical aspect of the Return to Work scheme (the Scheme).

The Guidelines are published in accordance with section 22 of the Return to Work Act 2014 (the Act) and provide for an objective, fair and consistent method of assessing permanent impairment arising from a work injury. This supports fair and equitable outcomes for all workers and an affordable and durable worker's compensation scheme for South Australian businesses.

It is important to note that the second edition Guidelines are effective for assessments where the date of injury for the relevant claim being assessed is on or after 24 August 2021. Therefore, for most assessments, this edition will not be applied for some time.

You can find the second edition of the Guidelines here.

Consultation was a vital step in the process and ReturnToWorkSA received significant feedback and input into the development of the second edition Guidelines. Of the 73 substantive changes originally proposed, over 30 were altered based on feedback and suggestions.
