Consultation on noise-induced hearing loss in the Return to Work scheme
Since 2018, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) claims and costs in the Return to Work scheme have significantly changed.
ReturnToWorkSA undertook a strategic review, engaging with with stakeholders to explore opportunities for improvement. The aim of the consultation was to:
- reduce the risk of work-related NIHL for workers and employers
- improve NIHL services and support for injured workers, including addressing barriers to accessing services and making a claim
- streamline the management of NIHL claims
- lower the number of disputes related to NIHL claims
- improve forecasting of scheme performance and liabilities.
The consultation process
Stakeholders were invited to review and provide feedback on the Consultation Brief. The consultation opened for eight weeks and closed on Wednesday 9 April 2025.
