Information for providers - changes to financial support for medical treatment
Insurance cover for most medical expenses ends on 30 June 2016 for most patients whose entitlement to income support ended before 1 July 2015. This is because 12 months have passed since their entitlements transitioned from the WorkCover scheme to the Return to Work scheme. We recently wrote to providers who are delivering services within the Scheme to make them aware of these changes.
Supporting your patients
Medical and health practitioners play an important role in supporting their patients to transition from Scheme funded services if ongoing treatment is required. To support medical and health practitioners we are sending letters which include a list of the patients who are likely to be impacted by the change to their financial support on 30 June 2016. We will also provide some options for assisting their patients to transition from Scheme-funded services to community, state, commonwealth or private services if ongoing treatment is required.
Our claims agents have been communicating directly with patients impacted to make them aware of the changes. We encourage providers to talk to patients impacted about their health care needs and options for ongoing treatment if needed.
